Ridg-U-Rak Case History

The Storage Problem:

Available space for a maintenance storage facility was the problem of a not-for-profit electric generation and transmission plant located in Rome, GA. They started by converting a fifth level corridor into a storage facility designed to house all fast moving maintenance items needed to keep the power plant operational. The corridor selected had been unusable space being 350 ' in length, 18 ' high and 15 ' wide. The inventory requirements were diverse, needing to organize thousands of different sized parts from nuts and bolts to larger parts weighing up to 1,350 pounds.

The Ridg-U-Rak Solution:

Stac-U-Rak

Ridg-U-Rak engineered a Stac-U-Rak racking system in the first 100 ' of the corridor, and additional 150 ' of fixed racking for bulk storage products. Cabinets were installed on the lower level of the fixed rack storage providing easy access to all small parts inventory.

The Stac-U-Rak system supports a 2,000 lb. capacity integral stacker crane with forks designed to easily and safely remove and replace the captive pallets. As a safety feature, tongues at the rear of these pallets must register in column slots prior to hooks being engaged in the front of the rack. The pallets were further customized with 4 ", 8 " and 12 " high panels creating over 200 "bins" or "tub kits" of storage.

The completed Ridg-U-Rak system created a virtual wall of storage bins consuming the entire 18 ' height available. By using the Stacker crane to move and access these tub kits a more versatile storage system was utilized and the entire picking operation became a one-man task.
