Ridg-U-Rak Case History

The Storage Problem:

A Fortune-500 tool manufacturer planned a major new warehouse construction project in Fort Mill, SC, to consolidate half a dozen smaller warehouse facilities. The new facility would produce a large cost-savings and would easily handle 50 semiloads of new stock daily. The rack portion would be planned around a very narrow row aisle (VNA) wireguided vehicle. The proposed new building, equipment and moving expenses represented a substantial cost. But the monthly cost savings of the consolidation were expected to pay back the initial investment in a little over 3 years.

The Ridg-U-Rak Solution:

Ridg-U-Rak was chosen as the VNA selective rack supplier, not on the basis of low bid but on the basis of product quality, ease of communications, customer service and design features. Because some building layout problems were encountered, Ridg-U-Rak provided both initial rack layout design drawings and final "as-built" drawings. An order for 3.2 million pounds was placed in March of 1994. Working around seven other trades on the site, this fast-track project was completed in 7 weeks, one week ahead of schedule by Ridg-U-Rak factory installation crews. Frame heights ranged from 27 ft. to 31 ft. and the length of beams used would stretch 63 miles. In addition, 53 miles of crossbars and 52 miles of upright frame columns went into the manufacturing of this rack project.
