Better Baked Foods - Project Profile

Drive-In Storage Maximizes Better Baked Foods’ Freezer Space

With soaring demand for Frozen French Bread Pizza, Better Baked Foods added a 250,000-square-foot food-processing plant in Erie, Pennsylvania. The first order of business was a 60,000-square-foot freezer, where the high operating cost of cold storage made efficient use of cube space critical.

Better Baked Foods Requirements

  • High-volume storage of similar-sized products
  • Limited number of SKUs
  • Cost-effective, high-density storage system

RIDG-U-RAK Solution

  • Drive-in system with 1,750 double-stacked pallet positions
  • Space Saver rails selected for height restrictions
  • Five-, six-, seven-, and nine-pallet-deep positions
  • Three levels high
  • Heavy-duty Slant-Baks at all entry points

“RIDG-U-RAK’s drive-in design maximized our freezer space and improved our ability to expedite shipments.”

Drive-In and Drive-Thru Storage

Drive-in and drive-thru systems store product on continuous rails, allowing lift trucks to enter the rack structure to place and retrieve pallets. Because fewer aisles are required, these systems increase storage density.

These last-in, first-out systems are ideal for warehousing similar products on like-sized pallets. RIDG-U-RAK provides both Ridg-U-Rail 2000 roll-formed rails for strength and rigidity and Space Saver rails when vertical clearance is critical.
